Natural Migraine Relief with Axon Optics Therapeutic Tint
Light is often what triggers pain and migraines, and migraine sufferers frequently complain of light sensitivity during their attacks. Dr. Bradley Katz, a founder of Axon Optics, is a neuro-ophthalmologist at the University of Utah and studies how precision tinted eyewear can provide relief to patients with light sensitive conditions. Blocking certain wavelengths of light can be an effective means of natural migraine relief.
A study performed by researchers at the University of Birmingham, England tested a group of migraine sufferers by having them wear glasses with a rose colored tint called FL-41. The tint preferentially blocks blue-green light and was originally developed to reduce sensitivity to fluorescent lighting, but has been shown effective in mitigating the frequency and severity of migraine, blepharospasm, and other light-sensitive conditions. Participants experienced a reduction in the number of migraines, from 6.2 episodes per month to 1.6 episodes per month. Dr Katz and researchers at the University of Utah continue to study and work to optimize tinted lenses for light sensitive patients.
Axon Optics now provides lenses that with precisely-tuned tints that block the light implicated in triggering and exacerbating migraines. More than 80% of patients report that the tint improves symptoms of photophobia (light sensitivity) and headache. For some patients, the improvement can be dramatic, allowing patients disabled by headache and photophobia to return to work. Watch Dr. Katz discuss our tint in the video below and see all customer feedback here.
Not All FL-41 Tints Are Created Equal
Axon Optics has the technical expertise to deliver consistent quality. One of Dr. Katz’ first research projects was to determine if his patients were getting the same quality from different vendors. He was surprised to find wide variations in the quality, spectral characteristics, and optical densities of FL-41 tints purchased from different optical shops and laboratories. Axon Optics uses the therapeutic formulation preferred by the Moran Eye Center and used for thousands of patients. Our chief technical officer, Dr. Steve Blair has more than 15 years experience in biomedical optics. He has the equipment to insure that our products consistently meet Axon’s specifications.
